Everything you need to know about electric welded gabions
What are electric welded gabions?
Electro-welded gabions can be described as metal electro-welded grids connected in one common structure. This structure is basically a cube, parallelepiped, cylinder or other shape made to order by a customer. The metal configuration itself of a different shape is filled with a selected inert material and can perform a different function - strengthening, decorative, shaping and others.
Gabion structures and projects are one of the most ecological, long-lasting and durable construction solutions that are chosen for the implementation of various construction structures. They fit perfectly into any landscape design and can be used in the yard, in the garden, in parks, on road infrastructures, water basins and other places. They have the unique ability to blend in with the landscape, while at the same time not being an obstacle to the natural vegetation and animal life.
Why are gabions considered to be an economical solution?
Durability - the gabions themselves are extremely durable not only in time, but also in various external atmospheric influences. The final coating of the metal grid protects it from corrosion, water, snow, wind and temperature amplitudes. Thanks to this, gabions retain their durability and appearance for years to come.
Maintenance - gabions are structures that do not require serious capital investments during their maintenance. They are characterized by an extremely long operational and trouble-free life. The metal preserves their coating for a long time, and the rock pieces are also not affected by time in terms of their characteristics.
Technology - as a solution, gabion structures are relatively budget-friendly, and for comparison, the necessary budget for the implementation of solid reinforced concrete structures can be taken into account. Gabions are easy to install, machines are only required for large and difficult sites. The inert material with which they are filled is mainly rock pieces, which are also of low cost.
What are electric welded gabions used for?
Electric-welded gabions are used quite widely, not only in professional construction, but also in the creation of structures in the home and garden. Numerous solutions can be created from them, by using standard sizes or custom sizes.
What types of electric welded gabions are available?
The types of gabions made of steel mesh are divided into several main directions, and they can be divided according to the type and size of the gabion itself, the diameter and type of the wire and the size (opening) of the mesh.
A type of gabion
According to their structure, gabions are divided into several main types. Cubes are gabions in the form of a parallelepiped or cube, while mattresses are lower in height and larger in area. Cylindrical gabions resemble a cylinder, in most cases open at the top and bottom, and they serve to enclose various plantings, for decorative columns or to dress them and other decorative elements.
Size of the gabion
Welded wire gabions are available in various sizes. Some of them are standard, mainly using small and large cubes with dimensions 50x50x50 or 100x100x100 cm, as well as parallelepipeds with different sizes of 50x50x100 cm, 50x50x200 cm, 100x100x200 cm, 100x50x200 cm and others. The gabions themselves are also available in non-standard sizes according to the client's project and assignment.
Wire thickness
The electric welded grids of the gabions themselves can be made of wire of different thicknesses, the standard ones being Ф3 and Ф4. Grids made of galvanized wire or one with an additional zinc coating are also produced to order, for greater durability and higher resistance to external influences.
Eye size
The opening of the cage of the gabions themselves can be of two types - square with a size of 50x50 mm or 100x100 mm and rectangular 50x100 mm. The size itself plays a role in the durability of the gabion, as the denser the wires are, the higher the load capacity of the welded gabion. On the other hand, the mesh of the gabion largely determines its appearance. It is also important that the mesh must be aligned with the inert material that will be used to fill the gabion structure. Too small rock pieces (small fraction) would be unfortunate for a gabion with a mesh size of 100x100 mm, for example, as they would fall through the holes and would not provide the necessary density.
