What is cold asphalt?
Cold asphalt is a modern innovative material that is used for quick asphalting of small areas of roads and repair of road surfaces. The use of cold asphalt offers many possibilities in the field of road construction . It allows paving in all temperature conditions and difficult weather conditions. Cold asphalt represents selected inert materials, bitumen and copolymer, processed according to Canadian technology to create an extremely easy-to-work material with high operational qualities. The composition is made on the basis of bitumen and modifying additives. Ready-to-use asphalt mixture is suitable for repairing road surfaces, filling holes and cracks, as well as for laying complete road surfaces. It can be applied at temperatures from -26°С to + 49°С , in the presence of water at the place of laying, without affecting the quality of the flooring.
Cold asphalt is characterized by such qualities as ease of use, reliability, ease of installation, the ability to perform work at low / high temperature (temperature of work and operation of the road surface up to + 50 ° C to -60 ° C). In addition, the use of the composition does not require heavy road equipment for laying and leveling, it does not take much time, and the asphalt becomes ready for work immediately after laying. You can use the cold asphalt for domestic purposes - for paving garden paths, houses, adjacent areas and the yard.
The order for asphalting the road surface
Preparation . It includes inspection of the place for carrying out repair works and selection of strategies for their implementation. This step takes a few minutes and boils down to a visual assessment of the repair site and the decision on the paving method (with or without preparation). No preparation is required for temporary asphalting (when major road repairs are subsequently planned). For long-term use of a road surface, minimal preparation is required, which includes leveling the edges of the pit and removing larger particles. It is also desirable to clean the asphalting area from dust and dirt in advance. If possible, it is convenient to slightly warm the base and the asphalt to increase the elasticity of the material and to improve adhesion to the base.
Carrying out works . This stage involves filling a hole (road section) with cold asphalt . The composition is poured onto the base and spread over the surface, in such a way that the edges of the material cover the existing asphalt pavement by 1-1.5 cm. Leveling can be done with any improvised tools - a shovel or garden tools. In the case of a deep paved hole of more than 5 cm, it is recommended to carry out the operations consecutively in two phases, after each, the used cold asphalt must be compacted. The duration of this stage is 2-3 minutes.
Reinforcement of asphalt. For full exploitation of the asphalt pavement after its laying, it must be compacted. Compaction is carried out using rollers, vibrating plates, wooden beams or other materials at hand. It should also be noted that during the operation of the asphalt , it will be further compacted by the vehicles that pass over the surface. The duration of this stage is 2-3 minutes.
Completion of work. This process includes cleaning the tools used during the work and collecting the trash (used cold asphalt packages, etc.) this takes an average of 3-5 minutes.
