D16 – End of residential area

Road sign D16 belongs to Group D “Special regulation road signs” and indicates the exit of a residential zone or settlement area where specific traffic rules applied previously After this sign the restrictions and special rules that applied within the residential zone cease to be in effect The sign is typically used where the road section with reduced speed, priority to pedestrians or other special pedestrian-friendly arrangements ends The sign is marked by a diagonal red line through the icon representing the residential area
Standard dimensions are 600 mm for use within built-up areas and 900 mm for use outside built-up areas Proper visibility and installation according to regulations must be respected The main purpose of sign D16 is to give a clear indication to drivers that they are leaving the residential area and must adjust speed, attention and driving behaviour accordingly
