D17 – Pedestrian crossing

Road sign D17 belongs to Group D “Special regulation road signs” and indicates a zebra-type pedestrian crossing on the carriageway. It is placed in order to alert drivers of motor vehicles about a location where pedestrians have the right to cross safely, and to promote increased attention and reduced approach speed.

The sign must be repeated on the left side of the road, and if visibility is poor it may also be placed above the roadway.

Standard dimensions are 600 mm for urban areas and 900 mm for outside built-up areas, according to signaling standards.

The main purpose of sign D17 is to ensure pedestrian safety and to facilitate interaction between pedestrian and vehicle traffic by clearly marking the crossing zone.
